Column Project

As I developed this project, I was inspired to create a column that could fit together in a variety of ways. I was inspired by Constantin Brancusi’s sculpture, Endless Column. I created a tall trapezoidal prism, with a square cut out of the base. This cut-out was the same size as the smaller square at the top of the shape. This allows each form to fit together seamlessly, maintaining structural integrity and repetition. In different configurations, several design principles are utilized. The overall form shifts, changing the rhythm of the composition. The simple individual unit allows the viewer to focus on the silhouette created by the column as a whole.
